Social Networks
In realtà questo post è paro-paro un messaggio email ke ho spedito ad un mio amico, col quale si parlava di Social Networks appunto.
E siccome lui è tedesco, l'ho scritto in linguafranca Inglese... che ovviamente ora non tradurrò. Ma via, credo sia comprensibile lo stesso.

At cost of appearing inconsistent, I must adfmit I'm not so fond of Social Networking - at least not in its new forms.
But I'd like to share with u my points of view about this - and pretty interested in yours as well, if u feel like.
So, I'm afraid I won't be short, at all: therefore pls just delete this if not interested, or at least sit confortable, 'cause u hit a nerve of mine... :)
Yes, we both share the same opinion about gayromeo, barebackcity.de, scatboi and bnskin - actually the only ones I use regularily, too.
And I agree about their chances to start small and grow afterwards: even if, if u compare the global number of S.N.'s versus the "meaningful" ones, I'm afraid the ratio ain't so flattering, at all.
But you see, Dirk, we both are talking about "niche" environments - pls don't get me snob: meaning niche not because we're better, but just because we're undoubtfully fewer.
And here the problems come up.
1st of all, let's see what happened to BIG S.N's like Y! or MSN whatever their names are today: still being not-so-small even when they started, at their beginnings they were actually open spaces. "Niches" - if any, developed naturally, with no need of pre-set labels.. just "I like it? I use it. It disgusts me? I'll keep off". Shit, sounds like blasphemy today, but it's just the most natural thing, IMHO.
The problem with those big SN's is that they have undergone a mutation into something between a Governmental tool and a money-maker instrument, masquerading their real reasons to exist with lables such as "trendy", "techy" and above all "safe" . GROAN.
But ok - taht was just history - and neither of us are talking about those. Back to "our own", then.
Premise: I'll be talking above all about the italian scene - yet as far as I get to know from my friends beyond the Alps, it seems that similar situations are not so rare even there.
"Niche", we said: but it's not enough. Speaking for myself, I use these and other Net-tools 90% to get in touch with guys with interests similar as mine, but above all with whom hopefully MEET in real life. Ok, the left 10% is exhibitionism for the sake of it - but that's my business - not related to this message.
...What are you? 30-something, I think? Ok, maybe 10-15 yrs younger than me, then - but guess/wish you have had the time to know the "old" Net's smell and taste as well.
No SN's the way we know them today, "then", excepted just IRC and little more - but the difference was striking: ppl used those tools for fun, of course, but "for real" - and not to dream - at least in most percentage. Just the same as I still do, that is. Ok?
Ok, but here's the big change: ratios are just all the opposite, today. Sure aids has had its biggest role in that, but it's not been the only one: nor I want to discuss that here and now - but I think it's an undeniable fact that on a side, the "common sense of decence" - whatever that crap means - has dramatically slashed back of decades.
And that on the other side, that back-slash does not mean that people's minds have so "purified" - nothing to "purify", they just became more bigots.. or just fucking frightened, if u want.... I's human.
So, and here we link back to the new technologies, now so many of them use these modern tools, but not to DO-IT, just to dream-of-it. Or jack-off - it's the same.
..Legitimate? Fucking sure it is: I'm not meankng they ought to be terminated, at all (well, if it happened I wouldn't cry, though :)) - but on my side this is the death of S.N systems, no matter if webstes or chats, and no matter how much big or popular they are.
I repeat, no idea about what happens in your country, even if it's undeniable I still look at it as at Dreamland :P, but have a look, on scatboi or bnskin itself, to the italian scene: lots of anonym profiles, lots of ppl clearly only interested in getting a big cock from a muscular stud instead of other activities, and even more and more ppl honestly admitting they're there "just to jack off".
Plus the filth who use fake profiles just to have a sneak view about the ones who appear so tres-comme-il-faut on gaydar, and not-so-sane elsewhere - when not to try to harrass them.
Dirk, I've been so long, and pls forgive me, provided you're still reading: but Ive been mumbling this delirium for a long time, and dunno why, you inspired me :)
So, back to SZ: it's pretty recent, and above all it's SO small.- but shit, it seems to me it's like an ancient fossil survived from the golden age.
No idea how it will grow, nor if it will anyway. Surely I'm not a closeted guy, but I think that the fact it's by invitation only can help to keep the loosers a bit away, a bit longer. And at the same time to be a good place for people of true-good will... er... :D
So, that's the reason why I told you about that.
Time to leave now (AT LAST!!! :D), but pls just let me open one more last brief parenthesis about gayromeo: funny, that website has had a pre-gaydar-censorship phase, and a post-gaydar one.
At least as far as italy and italians are concerned: when hardcore pics were free on gaydar, all our baby-hairdressers were all there, ignoring gayromeo, and no need to say I was on gayromeo, happily feeling among my dearest friends and similar pigs :)
Then gaydar put its limits, and all those fancy hairdressers couldn't show their gorgeous - although faceless - abs, ding-a-lings, bubble-butts and lingerie any longer - so they migrated to gayromeo.
Which today is actually TWO-gayromeo's: little-italy on a side - u can easily tell by the smell of cologne and by the amazing number of "slaves" and "masters" (no matter the role - everything it's ok, as long as it's a good excuse not to fuck) - and the other one on the other side.
